Re-enactments - combat - huge living history encampment - fashion - entertainments and much more!
EventPlan organised and co-ordinated another great multi-period show for Sheffield City Council as part
of the Sheffield Fayre 2004, following the success of
the 2003
fayre, and like the latter achieved around 20,000 visitors and an extremely high "feel
good" factor amongst the audience and participants alike. As
with all our events, quality of presentation and historical authenticity was
very high on our list of priorities, ensuring the best possible visitor
and re-enactor experience.

Living history demonstrations, talks and have a go activities ran concurrently with the above, laid out in a "timeline" from Ancient Britons to C20th, so giving visitors had the opportunity to literally "walk through history". As usual this highly visual and fascinating area proved very popular.
Historical traders/demonstrators
were also present.
Participants
An excellent line up of top groups took part:
Romans, Britons and Gladiators: The Vicus
Normans: Conquest
Medieval: The Neville Household, Savile Household and Knights Hospitalers*
Renaissance: Duelling techniques (and chance to have a go) by the Society for the Study of Swordsmanship.
English Civil War: The Fairfax Battalia* and Hungerford's Horse of the English Civil War Society
Napoleonic: 33rd (West Riding) Regiment of Foot, 68th (Durham) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry) and The Historical Maritime Society
Cowboys: The Arizona Rangers
Victorian: The Heilbron Commando (recreating South African Boers)*
1914: Members of The Manchester Regiment, 1914-18
WWII: Za Oberonya (Soviet military)
Underwear through the ages: a fascinating (and very popular!) 2-part fashion show by Hands on History.
Horses and key riders supplied by Stable Stars.
Plus
brilliant one man shows - Queen Boudicca's last battle against the Romans and
the Battle of Rorke's Drift 1879 - both "fought" using vegetable puppets and
audience participation - by
Hogarth’s Heroes.

The venue
Norfolk Heritage Park is a pleasant hillside location with lots of trees, slopes, flat areas for encampments, good viewing, arena backdrops, visitor centre and facilities, yet within easy reach of the city centre (walk, take the tram or drive). In addition to the re-enactments, there were crafts, a horticultural show and other activities to enjoy including (sited away from the re-enactments), a fun fair. A fantastic family day out for visitors, and free too!
Directions
From the North, East or South: M1 Junction 33, then A630/A5/A61S to city centre via Sheffield Parkway.
From the West: A57 to city centre.
From city centre: From the main Park Square roundabout (off Sheffield Parkway) take the A61(S) (Sheaf Street), past the railway station. Bear left, still on the A61(S) into Suffolk Road, then straight over the next roundabout past MacDonalds and up Farm Road. Turn next left into Park Grange Road under the Metro, then proceed up the hill until you see the park signs. These lead to the entrance and the Centre in the Park, complete with an excellent cafe.
Quality historical traders are invited to take part in the 2005 event by contacting us. EventPlan are booking and co-ordinating all historical traders, who are required to register in advance. Preference will be given to traders who utilise period tents or otherwise attractively present stands. Modern "market stall" style traders who do not offer high levels of presentation are not accepted as part of the historical display, but can apply to trade elsewhere on site via Sheffield City Council.
Our historical traders will be required to pay a modest pitch fee of £25 per day (total £50), discounted to £40 if paying EventPlan in advance by 31 July 2005. Historical traders with authentic tentage will be located adjacent to the living history encampments, with those in "market stall" type stands a little further away.
Other traders/concession holders wishing to participate should contact Sheffield City Council on 0114 273 6433.
