EventPlan strongly believes in
working with
performers. This isn't just a trendy strap line, we genuinely
appreciate performing groups and don’t see them as
just a “commodity” to be used, nor will we treat them this way. Further, we believe that by
working together, re-enactment’s strength as a serious interpretative tool can
only be enhanced.
Our numerous projects to date demonstrate what can be achieved when we all work together to mutual benefit, and we hope that groups will be willing to support our ongoing efforts to organise interesting events and filming opportunities in future. We thank all participants for helping to make our live events and film projects an ongoing success.
Re-enactors and other historical performers
If you are interested in taking part in EventPlan projects, please
drop us a line by post or e-mail with details of your group (if appropriate), numbers, standards of authenticity, etc, preferably with photos. Although we maintain close links with the re-enactment community, we welcome any news updates, society newsletters etc so we can keep abreast of developments. This in turn makes it easier to offer you appropriate opportunities when they arise.Groups and performers who would like to take part in our 2007 events are invited to contact us for more details. Please also refer to our Standard terms and conditions for participation and our safety policy
Check out our EventPlan News section, see what events we've staged during previous seasons or take a look at our photo galleries.
Trading
There are usually trading opportunities at our events, although because of the historical nature and ambience of our displays only selected applicants are accepted. Please check out our current trading opportunities.
Filming
Historical Film Services is the TV and film division of EventPlan limited. To view the Historical Film Services web site full screen, without the EventPlan navigation bar, please go directly to www.historicalfilmservices.com.
As well as noting society/ group details so we can offer events to clients as appropriate, we also maintain an extensive database of individuals and groups interested in taking part in filming.
Interested in joining the Historical Film Services database?
You may well enjoy being a background actor/extra for TV/film productions if...You are able to get up early if necessary; have your own transport or access to it; can accept weekday and weekend engagements at short notice; are patient & don't mind standing/sitting around at times (or all day if need be); don't mind long working hours (usually up to 10 per day); can cope if it's hot, wet and/or cold; will happily work under the direction of others; and (although we generally try to ensure historical accuracy) would not feel obliged to argue the finer points of authenticity even if the director has other priorities! Rates of pay vary but are not generally less than £80 per day, and are usually more if you supply your own kit. Assuming your application is accepted, you will join our ever growing database and whilst we don't promise work, you never know. Please note that unlike some extra agencies, we don't charge a fee for you to join.
If you would like to work with us in this capacity, please click on the link to view the application form, print off & complete the form, then send it to us with an SAE and photo. This will give us the information we need to offer you appropriate opportunities if and when they arise.
One problem we experienced in outfitting hundreds of “policemen” at Orgreave was that measurements supplied were often inaccurate, so please ensure that before filling out the form that you ask someone else to measure you, not just submit what you think your sizes are! Thanks for your help.
For a completely independent overview on what you might expect as an extra, please click here. Please note though that our rates are usually higher than standard "walk-ons" if you are supplying clothing/kit or specialist skills. Don't forget of course that we may well have to deduct tax and national insurance (the latter depending on the number of days we employ you per year) from your fee. You will never get rich being an extra, nor is it "easy money", but it can be a very satisfying thing to do.

A brief history of re-enactment
Whether new to re-enactment or a veteran, you might be interested to read Howard Giles' personal view of the history of re-enactment. If you have any anecdotes or photos of early re-enactment shows that we could feature, please do let us know.
