Achtung...Feuer! Normandy 1944: Allied armoured cars and infantry come under sustained counter attack from Wehrmacht units including this Stug III assault gun. Part of our WWII battle staged at our 2002 show.
Much to the surprise of the audience, the Germans prevailed over the Allies in Saturday's battle, driving the latter back. All too often, "gung-ho" films and re-enactments show the German as "pushovers" - but this was far from the case and by showing how hard the fight for Normandy actually was, we sought to honour the brave men on both sides, but especially those who faced and eventually utterly broke the Axis forces.
This very impressive Stug III is actually a replica based on a T54 chassis, constructed for Band of Brothers and supplied by Plus Film Services.
