High Woods Country Park, Colchester, Essex

C18th Redcoats in action against highwaymen. The latter mostly lurked in the woods during the wekend (reflecting the reputation of the area 250 years ago), waiting for unsuspecting visitors to pounce on. People enjoyed being “robbed” so much, they went back for more, especially when they realised that the highwaymen were collecting for the Army Benevolent Fund, who were also present at the event. The soldiers here have taken off their coats in a small concession towards the incredible heat, which reached 104 degrees at one point during the weekend.
