Although surrounded by the enemy, there was plenty to eat within the castle at the start of the siege. Bolingbroke Castle held out from 9 October to 14 November 1643, finally surrendering with winter approaching and with all hope of relief gone and the garrison facing the inevitability of a serious shortage of provisions.
