Recreating the past for live events, TV and film

Multi-period living history day

16th to early 20th Century recreations by English Renaissance, the English Civil War Society Social History Group and Histrionix brought the house’s themed rooms to life with talks and demonstrations. In addition, historical interpreter and costumier Jane Walton, of Hands on History, ran a popular children’s activity room. The latter featured replica period clothing that junior visitors could try on, a talk on historical underwear, have a go spinning & weaving, printing and quill & dip pen writing.

Our event was augmented with specially arranged talks within the Staffordshire Yeomanry regimental museum, situated on the top floor of the house.

Although deliberately modest in scale due to floor weight restrictions, the event was extremely well received by visitors and helped raise the public profile of the house. As a result, further events at the Ancient High House are likely to be arranged.

Organised within a limited budget, this event illustrates that smaller venues can benefit from successful historical recreations without undue expense, so long as performers and themes are well chosen.  With EventPlan’s considerable experience in this field, we can offer a similar service to other venues.
