Don't miss the Sheffield Fayre 2006, Sunday 27 to Bank Holiday Monday 28 August!

Introduction

A huge success! That's the general verdict from organisers, visitors and participants alike! On the weekend of 13-14 September EventPlan organised and directed a high-quality multi-period re-enactment event on behalf of Sheffield City Council as part of the park's annual free show, attracting around 20,000 visitors over a weekend of pleasant sunshine.  Featuring around 500 top re-enactors, the show included arena displays and an extremely impressive living history encampments. Displays included Romans and Britons, Vikings and Saxons, Normans, Medieval living history, entertainment and tourney, English Civil War,  C18th, superbly drilled British redcoats of 1815, an American Civil War skirmish, Victorians (a domestic display and amusing one man traveling show) and British "Tommies" of 1914. On Sunday, Diane Leek, Lord Mayor of Sheffield, toured the event and inspected an honour guard of Napoleonic redcoats.

Norfolk Heritage Park is a pleasant hillside location with lots of trees, slopes, flat areas for encampments, good viewing, arena backdrops, visitor centre and facilities, yet within easy reach of the city centre (walk, take the tram or drive). In addition to the re-enactments, there were crafts, a horticultural show and other activities to enjoy including (sited away from the re-enactments), a fun fair. A fantastic family day out for visitors, and free too!

As with all our events, quality of presentation and historical authenticity came very high on our list of priorities, ensuring the best possible visitor experience. Indeed, feedback from our audience was amongst the most positive we have ever received.

The question on everybody's lips seemed to be "will the event be staged again next year?"  Happily the answer is yes, the new date being August 29 & 30, the Bank Holiday weekend. Revisit the EventPlan web site again for more details as they are announced.

Arena displays offered a spectacular overview” of history from the Romans to 1914. Audience reaction to our continuous programme of colourful (and often very loud!) displays was extremely enthusiastic.

Amongst the displays, children were be given the opportunity to try their hands at C17th drill using lightweight “muskets” and “pikes”, great fun for kids of all ages and any parents brave enough to take part too!

Medieval Entertainment was performed in a separate arena area throughout the day by The Lion Rampant. Encompassing numerous different displays, this was effectively an event within an event!

Living history demonstrations, talks and have a go activities ran concurrently with the above, laid out in a "timeline" from Ancient Britons to 1914, so giving visitors the opportunity to literally "walk through history". This highly visual and fascinating area proved very popular.

Historical trader/demonstrators were also present.
