The Sheffield Fayre 2004

Norfolk Heritage Park, Norfolk Park Road, Sheffield

As part of our Napoleonic redcoat display, we compared the uniforms of three different regiments. Despite basic similarities, all infantry regiments had subtle distinctions that marked them out from the others, particularly the collars and cuffs (known as facings) and the pattern of lace on the jackets. From left to right the soldiers on parade here represent the Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards, the 33rd (West Yorkshire) Regiment of Foot and the 68th (Durham) Regiment of Light Infantry. The latter wears the distinctive light infantry shako with bugle horn badge. The recreated units these redcoats belong to are perhaps the finest in Britain in terms of drill, training and standards of kit, all of which was shown off to best effect in their displays.
