With no breeze and so much smoke on the battlefield, these grey-clad Confederate soldiers of the Southern Skirmish Association almost disappeared from view in a classic demonstration of the "fog of war", a problem experienced right up to the end of the C19th due to the use of Black Powder as a propellant.
