Recreating the past for live events, TV and film

Pirates!

 at Gloucester Docks

Sunday 25 and Sunday 26 October 2008   Free admission

A huge success with around 15,000 people enjoying swashbuckling multi-era living history and entertainments including replica ship The Mathew as an C18th pirate ship, pirates, Nelsonian Royal Navy launch, redcoat soldiers, 2 Viking long ships with crews on board and on the dockside, dark age combat, musket and cannon firing, sword fights on ship decks, storytelling, children's entertainments and much more!

The highlights of the weekend included Viking ship to ship battles and - with many thousands of onlookers cheering and clapping - the climactic pirate battle with The Matthew trading broadsides with a pirate cannon battery as the latter was stormed in style by Jack Sparrow and Will Turner stunt lookalikes, a Royal Navy landing party and redcoat soldiers (rescuing the Mayor and Miss Gloucester from the clutches of the villainous pirates!). There was a huge variety of other entertainment including dressing up and pirate have a go activities for children, an interactive display of Nelson's great Victory at the Battle of the Nile with model ships, musical entertainments on a nautical theme, treasure trail, screening of 3 Pirates of the Caribbean films, and much more. Staged for and in association with Gloucester City Council.

A stupendously successful show and a great ending to EventPlan's 2008 season.  click for photos of Saturday's displays and activities taken by Red Zebra or for some of the excellent visitor comments about the show.
