Recreating the past for live events, TV and film

Blasts from the Past!

 Some frequently asked questions

1. The Show

What's it all about then?

A high quality, wide-ranging multi-period historical show, staged on behalf of The National Trust, interpreting history through the ages.  Enjoy re-enactments, living history and music in this very picturesque setting.

Is the event suitable for families and small children?

Absolutely. There will be a huge variety of displays and activities to enjoy.

Is the show the same each day?

Yes it is, but do try to come on Saturday as you might enjoy it so much that you'll want to come back on the Sunday. There's so much to see, with at least two and usually three displays happening simultaneously in different locations, that you may prefer to plan a two day visit to enjoy it all!

Is it photogenic?

You bet. The displays are designed to look as good as possible.

Will there be a programme?

The National Trust will be producing a free programme.

2. Getting there

Is Clivden easy to find?

Yes it is. Cliveden is on the North bank of the River Thames at Taplow, near Maidenhead, Buckinghamshire. Leave the M40 J4 and take the A404 (South towards Marlow), and follow the brown signs, or leave the M4 at J7 and take the A4 towards Maidenhead, then follow brown signs.  Click for a map.

3. Admission to the event

Admission prices are very reasonable, with a large discount for National Trust members. Please revisit for exact prices once confirmed,. Parking is free.

4. Facilities

Is the event disabled-friendly?

The ground is nearly all flat, so suitable for most disabled visitors. Some living history areas are located within trees so care should be taken when visiting them.

What facilities are available?

Catering and toilets are available.

Are picnics allowed?

Yes. But we also have a variety of catering available on site. Visitors are asked to take their litter home or place them in the bins provided, to help keep Cliveden tidy (and safe for the deer, small animals and birds that live here).

Is there overnight camping?

We regret that there is no visitor camping or caravan spaces, or overnight facilities. If you would like to camp in the area, please refer to the local Tourist Information Centre for details of the nearest camp sites.

Re-enactors and performers will be camping in period or modern tents.
