Our 3rd Great year and a fantastic sell out success! Living history - re-enactments, battles and skirmishes - entertainments - fascinating historical crafts and much more!
Don't miss Blasts from the Past 2007!
After
a success of our 2005 show, the National Trust invited EventPlan to
stage Blasts from the Past for a third year at Cliveden, the
superb weather perfectly
complimenting the picturesque location. So
many visitors came that the
National Trust ran out of parking spaces both days and were forced to shut their
gates at lunchtime (temporarily on Saturday, but for most of the afternoon on
Sunday)! This didn't deter visitors
however and they parked on every road and verge for half a mile in each
direction before walking in. Fortunately, EventPlan had planned for large numbers of
visitors and with at least three displays happening at any one time during the
day, and two main living history areas, there was plenty of room and viewing
space. A truly excellent weekend all round!
Around 350 performers presented a continuous programme of
displays. Click for a
timetable of displays. These included arms, armour, weaponry and
battle tactics of warriors and soldiers through the ages; two
multi-era living history encampments; Romans and Britons; Vikings; medieval knights,
men-at-arms, ladies, camp followers; C17th musketeers, pikemen and cavalry
presenting drill and fighting skirmishes; American Civil War battles
and equestrian display; Wild West shoot outs; WWI mounted skills;
WWII and Vietnam era military, military vehicles and much more. Non-military displays include Cliveden's fashions through the ages in a
two-part cat walk show, a chance to step into a C17th "Vermeer painting",
Regency music and song, polar explorers, Victorian travelling exhibition (with a
stuffed mermaid!), WWII concert party, everyday life through the ages, cooking, clothing and
crafts. Children's entertainments include Tudor puppet
shows, interactive displays of Tank warfare and The Battle of Britain, a chance
to train as "medieval men-at-arms" or to find out what it was like to be in
Queen Boudicca's army in battle against the Romans. There
was a
huge variety of displays and activities to enjoy, as well as a variety of
unusual and interesting items on sale within "traders' row".

Trading
opportunitiesQuality historical traders were invited to book a pitch and around a dozen did so (which was just right within the layout). Pitches were limited and as usual preference was given to traders who utilised period tents or otherwise attractively presented stands.
