EventPlan arranged five historical events on behalf of Caldicot Castle, Monmouthshire, South Wales, as part of their annual programme, all successfully performed to enthusiastic audiences. These were:
Easter Sunday

The Power of the Normans
Step back to the turbulent C12th and enjoy an exciting event featuring members of Conquest and Hands on History. Meet superbly armoured knights and men-at-arms, together with civilians and camp followers. Watch fighting displays, wander through the encampment, see cooking and other aspects of everyday life and try your hand at striking a coin. Adults can try on the armour too.

Jacobites and Redcoats
It is 1745 and the whole country is in turmoil as news of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite invasion from Scotland spreads. Meet the Redcoat garrison as they prepare for action, and a party of Jacobite sympathisers who plot their overthrow. Enjoy living history, drill, musket firing displays and a exciting skirmish. Presented by Lace Wars.
Sunday 30 to Bank holiday Monday 31 May, 11am to 5pm
Experience the splendour, pageantry and romance of the medieval world with knights in shining armour, exciting combat, archery, drama, music, dance and juggling within a colourful encampment. Meet dukes, countesses, squires and peasants! Find out about medieval life, from armour to ladies' costume, medicine to religion. Super family entertainment presented by the Lion Rampant.
Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 August, 11am to 5pm
Tudor living History
The Tudor Group present an authentic display of everyday "Upstairs Downstairs" Elizabethan life, with emphasis on servants and ordinary folk. Enjoy music and dance, find out about period cookery, and watch archery and weapons displays by local militiamen, training to meet the ever present threat of Spanish invasion.

29 to Bank holiday Monday 30 August, 11am to 5pm
Caldicot Castle in Civil War
It is 1645 and the King is losing the English Civil War. The Parliamentarians are approaching and the Royalist garrison prepare to defend themselves. Watch the soldiers at drill and in firing displays, visit the tent lines camp followers as they go about their everyday lives and see period cooking, sewing and other activities as the garrison and their families apprehensively wonder what the future might hold. Try on armour, have go at holding a pike and watch an exciting skirmish as the enemy attempt to seize the castle. Presented by C17th Life & times.
Opening times and admission prices
Caldicot Castle is open every day from 1 March to 31 October, from 11am to 5pm. A tea room is usually open.
Normal admission prices apply on each of the above events.
Tickets are also valid for two weeks for discounted entry to Chepstow Museum, Abergavenny Castle Museum and Monmouth's Nelson Museum & Local History Centre.
Annual Caldicot Castle season tickets are also available at very attractive prices.

The castle is situated in the town of Caldicot, Monmouthshire, near M4 J23a. Click here for a map and directions. Please note that there is a toll for all vehicles crossing the M4 Severn Bridge into Wales.
