The Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Family Association (SSAFA) Press photo shoot for the launch of SSAFA's 125th anniversary appeal featuring 40 top re-enactors representing 1880s, Boer War, WWI, WWII and National Service era military and their dependants, alongside model Nell McAndrew and Chelsea Pensioners. SSAFA has played a vital role in assisting servicemen and their families in war and in peace since its formation in 1885, and continues to do so  - please donate now to this extremely worthy organisation. 11am-Noon. Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire

EventPlan Limited and The National Trust

Grand historical bazaar - Our second great multi-period bring and buy sale for re-enactors and historical enthusiasts in London, the Home Counties, South Midlands and East Anglia. A chance for re-enactors and living history enthusiasts of all eras to empty out those cupboards full of spare or no longer needed uniforms, equipment, weaponry, antiques, militaria, model soldiers, pictures & prints, books, CDs, DVDs, games and the like - indeed, anything historical* or historically-themed* and sell, barter or swap them with fellow re-enactors (and around 4,000 other visitors) at this picturesque venue with excellent facilities. Come visit and/or set up your stall (ideally in period clothing and preferably with period tent, definitely no car boots!), enjoy this start of season social, and browse all the other stalls. Modest pitch fees apply (discount for both days and for advance booking). Professional historical traders and group living history displays too, more welcome! Supported by Skirmish Magazine.  Free visitor admission (modest visitor car parking fee applies, National Trust Members free).

Hughenden Manor, Buckinghamshire The National Trust Victory at Hughenden -1940s weekend.  Our small but perfectly formed event for VE Day weekend, commemorating the role of local people and the manor during WWII, with music and song, weapons firing, entertainments & activities, and living history. Plus on Saturday, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Dakota flypast. Hughenden was a top secret RAF intelligence and map making centre credited with planning for the Dam Busters' raid,  the sinking of the Tirpitz and the bombing of Berchtesgaden. Re-enactors: All Allied personnel (especially RAF), civilians and vehicles warmly welcome!* - free admission if pre-registered.  Visitor admission charge applies (National Trust members free).

Rufford Abbey Country Park, Nottinghamshire Nottinghamshire County Council Medieval outlaws, knights and combat - Enjoy colourful encampments, living history, armoured knights and soldiers, camp followers, music, song, dance, drama, tournament and combat, archery, other re-enactments and entertainments.  See what happens when King John, the Sheriff of Nottingham and their retinues confront Robin Hood and his outlaws! Enjoy a C15th "spin" on the story and find out the truth behind the legend. Staged in association with the new Ridley Scott Robin Hood film, due to be premiered on 14th May. Free admission (modest visitor car parking fee applies).

Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve  Nottinghamshire County Council C15th encampment and living history - Visit an encampment of soldiers, camp followers and crafts people in the picturesque woodland glade opposite the famous Major Oak. Enjoy displays of archery, weapons drill, medieval cannon, hand gunners, and much more! Presented by Sir John Savile's Household as part of Nottinghamshire County Council's Robin Hood weekend, in association with the new Ridley Scott film. Free admission, modest car parking fee applies.

Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire The National Trust Robin Hood, Maid Marion and the Sheriff of Nottingham. Meet these famous characters, find out about the truth behind the legends, and watch as Robin and the Sherriff fight it out! Free admission, £5 visitor parking charge applies (National Trust members free).

Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire The National Trust Wartime Clumber - Our third 1940s show at Clumber Park, this year on the 70th anniversary of the completion of the Dunkirk evacuation, 1940 and 66th anniversary of D-Day, 1944. Enjoy music, song, dancing, entertainments and living history, all evoking the home front during WWII. Plus on Saturday, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Dakota flypast! Visitors are invited to join in with the spirit of the event by coming in period dress (completely optional, of course!). Re-enactors: All Allied personnel, civilians and vehicles (plus German and Italian POWs) warmly welcome!* Free admission, £5 visitor parking charge applies (National Trust members free).

Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire The Duke of Bedford Woburn through the ages. A delightful, modest sized Medieval to 1940s multi-period event set in the beautiful gardens of the abbey. Lots to see and do including living history and entertainments by top performers, evoking the fascinating history of Woburn, its owners, and its place in the wider world. 1940s Re-enactors: Appropriate pre-registered British military, civilians and vehicles welcome - please contact us in advance to seek an invitation*. The National Trust

Powys at home and at war - 1940s weekend. Enjoy music, song, entertainments and living history evoking the home front in Wales during WWII. Glemham Hall, Suffolk Suffolk Supporters of Help for Heroes Salute for Heroes  - A fantastic weekend of military displays and re-enactments with all profits donated to  Help For Heroes. A highlight of the year with over 1000 performers and 40+ timed displays per day, celebrating heroes from the past and the present including our military forces and the emergency services. Enjoy historical re-enactments; living history; modern military displays; flypasts; bands and equestrian, dog, motorcycle & fire service shows...and more! Loads to see and do! Visitor admission fee applies, all profits to Help for Heroes.

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Hampshire The Royal Navy and  Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Hampshire Tudor era to WWI multi-era naval living history as part of the Royal Navy and dockyard's impressive Navy Days event, which also features ships from different nations, flypasts and modern era arena displays. Visitor admission charge applies.

Broadlands, Romsey, Hampshire Broadlands Blasts from the Past!  -  A welcome return for our immensely popular, major Classical Greek to Space Race multi-period event, now set within magnificent parkland at the home of the late Earl Mountbatten of Burma. A highpoint of the event season with over 40 top groups of performers, this show was immensely popular when previously held at Cliveden and is definitely one not to be missed. Enjoy battles, military displays, living history and entertainments, plus Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypasts including on Saturday their Lancaster bomber. Visitor admission charge applies.

Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire The National Trust Regency entertainment and living history. Enjoy displays by redcoat soldiers, fashion, puppet shows, music, song and children's activities, all set within the beautiful gardens of this magnificent estate. Complementing an outdoor performance of "Pride and Prejudice" on the evening of Friday 20th (please call the hall on 01332 842191 for more details of the the play).

Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire The National Trust Wimpole at War, 1939-45. Wimpole's fourth wartime event and the first organised by EventPlan. A super weekend of wartime nostalgia with music, living history and entertainments. Plus on Saturday, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane flypast! Saturday evening dance for participants only (tickets £5, available nearer the time). Re-enactors: All allied personnel, civilians and vehicles warmly welcome subject to meeting Wimpole's authenticity guidelines (to be published in due course) - free admission if pre-registered. Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve  Nottinghamshire County Council Sherwood through the ages - Our sixth year at this most picturesque of living history venues. Follow the time trail around the Major Oak pathway and meet some the people who have lived in or helped to shape the history of this famous forest from ancient times to the 1modern era. Includes displays of archery, medieval combat, Civil War musket firing, and modern day conservation activities.  Free admission, modest car parking fee applies.

Abbey Field, Colchester, Essex The British Army

(16 Air Assault Brigade and the Colchester Garrison)

The Colchester Military Festival - A welcome return for our living history and arena displays of ancient warriors to C20th army troops, forming a central part of the huge army show (held every two years), the most ambitious of its kind in the UK, with 30,000 visitors present. also enjoy many other displays including military bands, helicopters, army vehicles, dare devil motorcyclists and of course, the grand finale. This will be the 4th military festival held to date, and a show that we've been proud to be part of since its inception. Show your support for our armed forces and enjoy a fabulous show too!

Castle Park, Colchester Snake in the Grass Limited The Siege of Colchester, 1648 - Battles, living history, ongoing skirmishes and displays by the The English Civil War Society evoke this epic moment in England's history, which completed Parliament's crushing victory over King Charles I in the second English Civil War.
