Grand historical bazaar - Take part in or visit this great multi-period bring and buy sale for re-enactors and historical enthusiasts in London, the Home Counties, South Midlands and East Anglia. A chance for re-enactors and living history enthusiasts of all eras to empty out those cupboards full of spare or no longer needed uniforms, equipment, weaponry, antiques, militaria, model soldiers, pictures & prints, books, CDs, DVDs, games and the like - indeed, anything historical* or historically-themed* and sell or swap them with fellow re-enactors (and around 4,000 other visitors) at this picturesque venue with excellent facilities. Come in period kit, set up your stall (preferably with period tent, definitely no car boots!), enjoy this start of season social, and browse all the other stalls. Modest pitch fees apply (discount for both days and for advance booking). Professional historical traders and group Living history displays also welcome. Supported by Skirmish Magazine. Free visitor admission (modest visitor car parking fee applies). * certain exceptions apply eg Nazi party or SS related items. No non-historical items for sale. |

| 20-21 June* | Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire | The National Trust | Muskets and Mayhem. Wimpole returns to 1649, the unrest of the English Civil War and execution of King Charles I. Top performers bring Wimpole to life as it might have been in this troubled time. Drill with the foot soldiers, visit their encampment, see their daily life and rations, and contrast these with that of their C17th social superiors. Meet Wimpole’s owner of the time, the staunch Royalist Sir Thomas Chicheley, and discover his plans for his new estate and concerns for the future. Talk with the workers and lower classes as they go about their daily business. Watch radical Levellers as they demand revolutionary political reform and military courtroom drama as they defend their views. See if you can spot the Royalist spy, and finally, cover your ears during a thrilling skirmish between Parliamentarian and Royalist troops. A thoroughly engaging day out for the whole family. Ancient to 1980s living history including on HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and Monitor M33, arena displays, Mary Rose themed demonstrations including cooking on the recreated ship's galley, boats rowed by period sailors, musket and cannon firing, music and song, and much more. | 3-4 October* | Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve | Nottinghamshire County Council | Sherwood through the ages - Our fifth year at this most picturesque of living history venues. Follow the time trail around the Major Oak pathway and meet some the people who have lived in or helped to shape the history of this famous forest from ancient times to the 1980s on exercise. Includes displays of archery, medieval combat and Civil War musket firing. Plus modern day conservation activities staged by the park rangers.
