Grand historical bazaar - Take part in or visit this great multi-period bring and buy sale for re-enactors and historical enthusiasts in London, the Home Counties, South Midlands and East Anglia. A chance for re-enactors and living history enthusiasts of all eras to empty out those cupboards full of spare or no longer needed uniforms, equipment, weaponry, antiques, militaria, model soldiers, pictures & prints, books, CDs, DVDs, games and the like - indeed, anything historical* or historically-themed* and sell, barter or swap them with fellow re-enactors (and around 4,000 other visitors) at this picturesque venue with excellent facilities. Come in period kit, set up your stall (preferably with period tent, definitely no car boots!), enjoy this start of season social, and browse all the other stalls. Modest pitch fees apply (discount for both days and for advance booking). Professional historical traders and group Living history displays also welcome. Supported by Skirmish Magazine.  Free visitor admission (modest visitor car parking fee applies).

30-31 May* Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire The National Trust Kedleston at War 1939-45 - Enjoy 1940s living history, entertainments, music and song, evoking Kedleston Hall's role during WWII. The City of Gloucester

 

Marketing Gloucester Ltd Tall Ships 09 (incorporating Gloucester through the ages) - 5 period tall ships and an impressive multi-period festival celebrating the rich heritage and history of Gloucester, at a number of key locations within the city. Timed displays, displays, entertainments and living history. Free admission (a small admission fee aboard the tall ships may apply Saturday and Sunday mornings only), parking in city car parks (fee payable). Various performers Performed
13-14 June* Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire The National Trust Wartime Clumber - Enjoy music, song, dancing, entertainments, Dakota flyover (Saturday only)  and living history, all evoking the home front during WWII. Visitors are invited to join in with the spirit of the event by coming in period dress (completely optional, of course!). 13-14 June Powis Castle, Powys The National Trust An Edwardian garden party.  Music, song and genteel living history as part of the National Trust's garden party. Hautbois musicians and The Chatelaines Performed
20-21 June* Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire The National Trust

Muskets and Mayhem. Wimpole returns to 1649 and the unrest during the English Civil War and execution of King Charles I. Enjoy military displays, see the everyday life of the gentry, soldiers, estate and farm workers, watch as radical Levellers demand revolutionary political reform, try to spot the Royalist spy, and thrill to a skirmish between Parliamentarians and Royalists. A thoroughly engaging day out for the whole family. Free children’s treasure trail. Themed menu in Old Rectory Restaurant.

18 July* Abbey Field, Colchester, Essex The British Army (16 Air Assault Brigade and Colchester Garrison) The Colchester Military Festival - Living history and arena displays of Classical Greek warriors to modern army troops, forming a central part of the huge army show, the most ambitious of its kind in the UK, with 30,000 visitors present and many other displays. 1 August Forge Mill Needle Museum, Worcestershire Redditch Borough Council Titanic themed day. Meet "passengers" from this famously ill-fated liner and visit the "Titanic: Honour and Glory" exhibition (which is running for much of the summer) The Chatelaines Performed
8-9 August* Sutton Hoo, Suffolk The National Trust Sutton Hoo through the agesEnd of Empire Romans, dark ages, Normans, Napoleonic redcoats and 1940 Home Guard. 30-Bank Holiday 31 August* Norfolk Heritage Park, Sheffield Sheffield Fayre Management Committee The Sheffield Fayre - Our seventh year presenting superb quality Ancient to WWII multi-period displays with battles, combat, displays, living history encampments and entertainments, as part of this extremely popular annual event. Free admission, modest on-site parking charge applies. Various performers Repeat event - Performed
 3-4 October* Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve  Nottinghamshire County Council Sherwood through the ages - Our fifth year at this most picturesque of living history venues. Follow the time trail around the Major Oak pathway and meet some the people who have lived in or helped to shape the history of this famous forest from ancient times to the 1980s on exercise. Includes displays of archery, medieval combat and Civil War musket firing. Plus modern day conservation activities staged by the park rangers.  Free admission, £3 car parking fee applies. 10-11 October* Hughenden Manor, Buckinghamshire The National Trust Codename  “Hillside” - Hughenden Manor in World War II -  a small but perfectly formed event commemorating the role of local people and the manor during WWII, with music and song, 25-pounder gun firings, entertainments & activities, and living history. Hughenden was a secret RAF intelligence and map making centre credited with information leading to the sinking of the Tirpitz. Hughenden was a top secret RAF intelligence and map making centre credited with planning for he Dam Busters' raid,  the sinking of the Tirpitz and the bombing of Bergestgarten. This year's event is staged in association with the new Ridley Scott Robin Hood film, premiered on 14th May. Lots to see and do including living history and entertainments by top performers, evoking the fascinating history of Woburn, its owners, and its place in the wider world. Various performers Subject to confirmation 31 July-1 August* Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Hampshire Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Hampshire Multi-era naval and military living history as part of the Royal Navy and dockyard's  Meet your Navy event, which also features ships from different nations, flypasts and modern era arena displays. Various performers Repeat event - Subject to  confirmation 8-9 August* Broadlands, Romsey, Hampshire Broadlands Blasts from the Past! A welcome return by our immensely popular ancient to modern era multi-period event, now set within the magnificent parkland at the home of the late Earl Mountbatten of Burma. A highpoint of the event season, this event was immensely popular when previously held at Cliveden and is definitely one not to be missed. 16 July* Abbey Field, Colchester, Essex The British Army (16 Air Assault Brigade and Colchester Garrison) The Colchester Military Festival - A welcome return for our living history and arena displays of ancient warriors to C20th army troops, forming a central part of the huge army show (held every two years), the most ambitious of its kind in the UK, with 30,000 visitors present. also enjoy many other displays including military bands, helicopters, army vehicles, dare devil motorcyclists and of course, the grand finale. This will be the 4th military festival held to date, and a show that we've been proud to be part of since its inception. Show your support for our armed forces and enjoy a fabulous show too!
