Living history, skirmishes and displays to commemorate the 360th anniversary of this defining moment in England's history, which set the seal on Parliament's victory in the civil war. Part of the Newark 1646 commemorative programme, generously funded by the Local Heritage Initiative and Nationwide Building Society. Free admission. | 15 July* | Abbey Field, Colchester, Essex | The British Army (16 Air Assault Brigade and Colchester Garrison) | The Colchester Military Festival - the show's third year and even bigger and better! Living history and arena displays of Classical Greek warriors to 1980s troops featuring the elite of British re-enactment. A central part of the ambitious army show, which this year also included air displays by three Spitfire fighters, and army helicopters. Despite being perhaps the most ambitious show of its kind in the UK with 30,000 visitors present, it offered amazing value at only £5 per person or £15 per family.
